The case of finely figured red marble has beautiful borders of ormolu foliage and flowers to the front and sides. The base is of ormolu and sits on six bun feet. The finely patinated bronze figure of a reclining Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest with serene expression on her face and ears of corn in her hair. Symbols of victory and harvest in the form of a cornucopia feature below the dial.
The typical French movement of 20-day duration has four pillars, anchor escapement wood rod pendulum and strikes the hours and ½ hours on a bell. Well cut foliage hands and Roman and Arabic numerals feature on the 6” enamel dial. Signatures on the dial and movement backplate of Breguet A Paris are thought to be a later addition.
