A very fine and small mahogany ¼ chiming bracket clock by Robert Wood, London C.1790.

The triple pad top, brass lined mahogany case has side frets, a carrying handle and ogee feet. The finest veneers are used throughout.

The 8-day movement has 5 turned pillars, anchor escapement and strikes the hours on one bell and the ¼’s on 6 bells. A plain backplate is signed “ Robert Wood, London” and the pendulum has above bob regulation.

The exquisite 5 ½” dial has 2 porcelain dials. The one in the arch is for strike- silent and the chapter ring has Arabic and Roman numbers, good hands and a full signature. Of particular note is the dialplate, which has exceptional gilded engraving,

Robert Wood, a well-known London maker of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He specialised in high quality clocks, many of which were musical. He also catered for the export market particularly for the middle east and China.
