A rare early 30-hour oak longcase clock by Walter Prestige of Eydon (Northants) C1720.
The flat topped hood has 4 well-turned pillars. The front right one having two brass hinges for the opening door.
The 42” long trunk door has a shaped top with beaded edging, a glass lenticle and the base has a small plinth.
The posted frame movement is typical of the area and strikes the hours via a countwheel, it has an 11” dial, corner spandrels, 2 hands and a date aperture with an engraved surround.
The Prestige family worked in Eydon from the early 1700’s. This clock by Walter 1 is as far as we know the only clock known by him. Walter II and a William working from 1740 – 1770 were more prolific.
